My All-time favorite Protein Mexican Hot Chocolate made with cacao powder and protein powder. This healthy hot chocolate uses almond milk and no chocolate chips, making it Vegan and Dairy free too. The perfect spicy chocolate drink for a cozy night in.
Ingredients
½cupUnsweetened Almond Milk, or other
⅓cupWater
2tspCacao Powder, or Unsweetened Cocoa
½tspCinnamon
PinchofCayenne Pepper
½scoopChocolate Protein Powder, about 15g
Instructions
In a small pot, combine almond milk, water, cacao or cocoa powder, cinnamon and cayenne pepper. Whisk and heat over medium until it starts to simmer.
Do not let boil.
Remove from heat, add chocolate protein powder and whisk again vigorously. Be sure to use a whisk, and not stir with a spoon.
Pour into a mug and serve hot.
Notes
Don’t overheat the milk. Stop when it starts to simmer with small bubbles on the top. Do not let it boil.
Do not add the protein powder before removing from heat, or it will burn on the bottom.
Storage:
In the refrigerator in an airtight container for 3-4 days. Heat on the stovetop until hot and steamy. Microwave as an alternative.
