A super basic Homemade Whole Wheat Pita Bread recipe that needs just 3 ingredients, one of which is water! Get your healthy carbs while also saving some money on those weekly grocery runs.
Ingredients
2cupsWhole Wheat Flour, 240g
1TbspActive Dry or Instant Yeast, 1 packet, 7g
¾cupWarm Water
¼tspSalt, Optional
Herbs & Spices, Optional
Instructions
Preheat oven to 500°F.
Sift flour into a large bowl.
Active Dry Yeast: Combine yeast with water in a bowlInstant Yeast: Stir yeast together with flour
Gradually add water to flour and mix well until the dough starts to clean the sides of the bowl.
Knead the dough until smooth and elastic, about 4-5 minutes. Do not over-knead.
Divide dough into 10 balls.
On a lightly-floured surface, roll out each ball into a 5-6” circle, about ⅛-¼ inch thick.
Place dough on a nonstick baking sheet and set aside to rise for 30 minutes.
Flip each pita over on its other side (Important) and bake for 5 minutes.
Pitas may be hard when they come out of the oven, but will soften as they cool.
Cut pitas in half crosswise and stuff with your choice of fillings!
