Okay to be honest, what I was really dreaming about was this homemade Starbucks Double Chocolate Chip Frappuccino. A Starbucks copycat recipe at home without spending all that money? Who would say no, right?

But I’d already committed to revamping one of my old blog posts with new pictures, so here we are.

No regrets though, because this smoothie turned out so rich and so chocolatey, and SO creamy with those oats in there!
P.S. don’t be skeptical about oats; This chocolate oat protein smoothie is a keeper!

Is it good to put oatmeal in your protein shake?

Adding oats in your protein shake is actually good for you because it gives you a really thick rolled oats smoothie with no banana! This is a great option for cutting down all the sugars – even though they’re natural –  but having a thick and filling oatmeal smoothie recipe for breakfast. 

Making a protein oatmeal smoothie also has great workout-related benefits, both for losing weight or even gaining it (depending on what your goals are).

Adding oatmeal in protein shakes has benefits like giving you a good source of fiber, and also health carbs – especially useful for muscle gain. Another benefit is that the oatmeal in this shake keeps you full longer, making this a great protein oats smoothie for weightloss!

If you’re looking to gain weight, add in even extra oats for a higher calorie recipe!

Ingredients in Chocolate Oatmeal Protein Smoothie

  • Chocolate Protein Powder: This is the core ingredient to this chocolate oatmeal shake. Make sure you use a good quality one.
  • Rolled Oats:
    Use gluten-free rolled oats to keep it GF and Paleo-friendly.
  • Unsweetened Almond Milk: The base, and also keeps this dairy free! Use unsweetened because the sweetness of the protein powder should be enough for the recipe. 
  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder or Cacao Powder
  • Ice Cubes: This is what makes the plain old drink a thick milkshake! Add as much or little as you like.

Can I eat raw oats in protein shake?

Eating raw oats in a protein shake is completely okay since you blend all the ingredients together. The raw rolled oatmeal get blitzed and blended with everything else in this protein smoothie with oats, and all you’re left with it a thick and filling drink!

How much oats do you put in a protein shake?

For the perfect chocolate protein oats shake, you want to add a half cup of oats for every one cup and one scoop of protein powder. This gives you a thick and creamy texture; Feel free to add some more milk if you want something thinner.

How do you make a protein shake with oats?

This chocolate protein oatmeal smoothie really is a one step process; Just blend everything in a blender!

Use a high speed blender, add in all your ingredients – rolled oats, chocolate protein powder, cocoa or cacao powder, almond milk, vanilla and ice – and blend!

This should take about 30 seconds (so that the ice gets crushed well) and you’re going to have something like a protein milkshake!

Ingredients

  • 1 scoop Chocolate Protein Powder, about 30g, ⅓ cup
  • ½ cup Instant/Quick Oats, 45g, or Rolled
  • 1 tablespoon Unsweetened Cocoa Powder, or Cacao Powder
  • 1 cup Unsweetened Almond Milk
  • ½ teaspoon Vanilla Extract, Optional
  • ¾ cup Ice Cubes, about 6

Instructions

  • Combine all the ingredients – chocolate protein powder, oats, cocoa or cacao powder, milk, vanilla and ice – in blender and blend on high for about 30-45 seconds until desired consistency is obtained.
  • Add ice to make it thicker, or a splash of almond milk to make it thinner.

    Honestly I’m not a protein or smoothie kinda girl. But I got a big jar of chocolate protein powder and I’ve been looking for a recipe without bananas to use for after my workouts. This one is a godsend. I didn’t have cocoa powder so i added a teaspoon of chocolate syrup and it wrapped it together nicely. Really recommend!

    Hi guys,
    Honestly, I don’t like the oats recipe, I got bored and searching new recipes, I found this website. Actually, I was scared to try the oats recipe. Because it’s so creamy and thick which I don’t like.
    I would like to thanks Hayls’s Kitchen recipe, it was a sooper duper hit. I love it for the very time, Oats recipes. I can’t believe this. I am trying every day and enjoying the oats.
