I saw someone on Instagram make a collagen caramel cup recipe which kinda looked like chocolate coated caramel. That caramel looked so gooey and smooth I had to try my own version.

Not gonna like, this caramel was so smooth, it was hard to believe! I posted some stories on my own IG and so so many people wanted the recipe, so I just had to rush it. I think the big hype around this caramel is that it was high protein without protein powder, since it uses collagen instead.

A perfectly smooth drippy caramel recipe here that went amazingly well on an apple crumble recipe I made.

Ingredients for the High Protein Caramel Sauce

This high protein caramel sauce is made with just 4 ingredients, and uses collagen peptides to get that protein bump.

  • Unflavored Collagen for an extra boost of protein. I use this one from American Dream Nut Butter. Use my code HAYLSKITCHEN when you buy to get a discount.
  • Peanut Butter – If you want an extra high protein version, I highly recommend American Dream Nut Butter (use code HAYLSKITCHEN for an extra discount).
  • Maple Syrup
  • Almond Milk

To make Caramel Sauce Sugar Free:

I used regular maple syrup for this recipe, but if you want a sugar free version of this caramel, use a sugar free maple syrup alternative. I recommend this maple syup from Lakanto.

For a Keto friendly Caramel Sauce

Just as above, to make this homemade caramel keto friendly, use the Lakanto maple syup instead of regular maple syrup.

Or a Low Fat Caramel Sauce

If you want a low fat version of this caramel sauce, replace the peanut butter with peanut butter powder (I recommend PbFit). You will also need to add some extra milk.

For the Ultimate Low Calorie Recipe

If you want to make this caramel sauce extra low calorie, replace the peanut butter with peanut butter powder and use sugar free maple syrup. You might need a bit of extra milk in this version.

How to make a Collagen Peptide Caramel Sauce

Along with having simple ingredients, this collagen peptide caramel sauce is really easy to make as well. The steps:

  1. Whisk together all the ingredients in a bowl:
Collagen peptides, peanut butter, maple syrup and milk.

And that really is all you need!

Big tip for perfect smooth Protein Caramel Dipping Sauce:

Use drippy peanut butter so that it mixes well with the remaining ingredients.

How to store Healthy Homemade Caramel Sauce

This healthy homemade caramel sauce needs to be stored in the fridge.

Keep the protein caramel in an airtight container and keep in the fridge for 4-5 days. Lightly warm it in the microwave to make it runny again.

How to use Protein Caramel Recipe

This protein caramel recipe is very versatile and can be used pretty much any place you’d like to use regular caramel. Here’s some ideas>

  1. Ice Cream Sundae:
Drizzle collagen peptide caramel sauce over ice cream with your favorite toppings.
  2. Dip:
Dip fresh apples or even pretzels into homemade caramel recipe.
  3. Pancakes, Waffles or French Toast
Level up your breakfast with some caramel sauce instead of maple syrup. Maybe even atop some protein crepes?
  4. Oats!
If you’ve never tried it, Caramel on oats is a must-try. A hot bowl or even some baked oats like this one.
  5. Drizzle on Baked Goods:
My favorite is on an Apple Crumble recipe, but you can just as well drizzle this caramel.
