Unexpectedly good Chocolate Maple Bars sweetened with protein powder and topped with sugar-free chocolate. This healthy maple chocolate dessert bar is a real flavor bomb!

I’m not sure where the idea for this maple and chocolate protein bar recipe came from, but this combination really is unexpectedly good. The coziness and aroma of the fall from the Maple, and the unending comfort of chocolate.
These bars are too good to say no to.

Ingredients for Protein Chocolate Maple Bars

These high protein chocolate maple bars are made with a few healthy ingredients (no butter) and some classic – and some healthy – halloween canday.

  • Vanilla Protein Powder for healthy, sugar free pumpkin cookie
I used Quest Nutrition Vanilla whey-casein since it works best for baking.
  • Almond Butter Powder, also known as Powdered Almond Butter. I use the one from PB2.
Peanut Butter Powder is another alternative. I recommend Lakanto (the code HAYLSKITCHEN gives you a discount here).
PbFit or PB2 are good options too.
  • Maple Extract
  • Zero Calorie Sugar – This is the Monkfruit 1:1 Sugar Substitute from Lakanto, and keeps this recipe sugar free;  (code HAYLSKITCHEN for a discount here)
  • Whole Wheat Pastry Flour
  • Coconut Flour
  • Unsweetened Applesauce
  • Almond Butter; I’d recommend American Dream Nut Butter Cookie Batter Almond Butter; Code HAYLSKITCHEN gives you a discount.
  • Baking Soda
  • An Egg
  • 1:1 Sugar Free Powdered Sugar Replacement: I used Lakanto powdered monk fruit and erythritol sweetener (code HAYLSKITCHEN gets you a discount here too)

And for the chocolate topping on these maple bars:

  • Sugar Free Chocolate: I used the one from Lakanto here.

  • Melted Coconut Oil
  • Chocolate Cereal: I used Magic Spoon Cocoa Cereal

Tips for Maple Chocolate Bars with Protein Powder

This protein maple chocolate bars is super easy, but heres’ some tips to get it perfect every time.

  • Use whey-casein protein powder since it works well with the ratio of ingredients here; Whey absorbs less moisture, so you would have to reduce the amount of applesauce in this case.
  • Use room temperature ingredients so they mix well.
  • To make it look pretty, save some chocolate candy for topping 🙂
  • Remove bars from oven when the tester comes out mostly clean; Bars will continue to cook when cooling.
  • Let bars cool completely before spreading chocolate on top, or it will just melt away.
  • Melt chocolate in intervals since it can burn when heating in the microwave.

Store Chocolate Maple Protein Bars

These maple protein bars can be stored on the countertop, in the fridge or even frozen.

Keep maple chocolate dessert bars on the countertop for 1-2 days, and in the fridge for 5 days (in an airtight container).

To freeze healthy chocolate maple cake bars recipe, place in freezer-safe zipper bag with parchment paper between each once, and keep 1-2 months; Don’t forget to thaw before eating!

Alternates for Maple Chocolate Dessert Bars

I recommend making this healthy maple chocolate dessert bar recipe using the protein powder and other ingredients and products listed – since it gives the best results.

If you need other options, here’s some alternatives to try:

  • Whole Wheat Pastry Flour: All purpose flour or 1:1 Gluten Free Baking Flour, in the same amount by weight.
  • Applesauce: Mashed Banana or Pumpkin Puree
  • Zero Calorie Sugar Alternative: Regular sugar or coconut sugar (this won’t be sugar free though, and also higher in calories)
  • Almond Butter Powder: Peanut Butter Powder, or Almond Butter (but reduce applesauce by about 2 tablespoon in this case)
  • Almond Butter: Peanut Butter, Tahini, Cashew Butter, or any nut or seed butter.
  • Sugar-free Chocolate: Regular Chocolate
