Okay not gonna lie, this was beyond beautiful! My husband and I had this beautiful beautiful pistachio filled croissant at the mall a month ago, and I really wanted more croissant. Made this chocolate filled version and it’s a game changer.

The perfect flaky and crispy croissants with a rich high protein chocolate filling – how can you say no?!

Ingredients for Healthy Chocolate Croissant

This healthy chocolate croissant recipe uses reduced fat crescent rolls and a high protein filling made with protein powder! Here’s what all you need:

  • Frozen Croissant Rolls: I use the reduced fat crescent rolls from Pillsbury, but you can also use these large ones!

For the Protein Chocolate Filling

  • Chocolate Protein Powder: I used Quest Nutrition Chocolate Protein Powder for this recipe
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Water

How to make High Protein Chocolate Croissant?

These protein chocolate croissants are really easy to make here!

  1. Bake Croissants: Follow the package instructs and bake the croissants – about 10 minutes at 375°F.
  1. Make the filling: Mix chocolate protein powder, cocoa powder and water in a bowl.
Add water little at a time so the mixture doesn’t get too runny.
  2. Assemble: Put filling into piping bag (use small tip). Piece bottom of croissant and squeeze out some filling into croissant.
Make about 3 holes each – about 1” apart.

Tips for Sugar Free Chocolate Croissant

Making these sugar free chocolate croissants with protein powder is super easy, but here’s some pointers so you can get it perfect!

  • Use freshly baked crispy croissants! If they’ve gotten soft, I recommend putting them in the air fryer for about 3-4 minutes at 375°F.
  • Use whey-casein protein powder as specified; It absorbs more liquid. If you use whey, use less liquid.
  • Add water a little at a time so the filling isn’t too runny; Add more or less as needed.
  • Use piping bag with small hole so you don’t poke too big a hole in the croissant

How to store Healthy Chocolate Stuffed Croissant

These healthy chocolate stuffed croissants need to be stored in an airtight container; Keep them on the countertop for about 2-3 days.

To reheat, I would recommend using an air fryer. Try 3-4 minutes at 375°F.

Some alternate ingredients Chocolate Filled Croissant

I made this healthy chocoalte filled croissant with the ingredients listed, but here are some other options:

  • Reduced Fat Croissant: Use regular small croissants, or large croissants, or even freshly baked croissants from the barkery!
  • Whey Casein Protein Powder: You can use whey protein, but also reduce the milk to about ⅓ cup.
  • Chocolate Protein Powder: Use vanilla protein, but also add about 1tsp extra cocoa powder.

How to make Vegan Chocoalte Stuffed Croissants

To make these healthy chocolate stuffed croissants Vegan, use plant-based croissants and plant-based protein powder. I recommend the plant chocolate protein powder from KOS.
