Sweet, chewy and peanutty homemade Snickers Bars that are Vegan, Sugar-free and high in protein too! Made with oat flour, protein powder, peanut butter and stevia-sweetened maple syrup and chocolate, this is the best healthy snickers candy and protein bar out there!

Preface: Snickers was probably my most favorite candy bar growing up, and I got hooked on it because of my dad. It was his all-time favorite too, and we’d be fighting over the last one.

But I haven’t had one of these for over 2 and half years after I started Keto and then eating healthy.

First bite into this and all those memories came running back.

These healthy snickers candy bars with all the layers including with the nougat, the peanut, caramel and chocolate flavors, and complete with the chocolate coating – are just heavenly!

I even used a salted caramel dark chocolate to take it to a whole other level!

Ingredients for Homemade Sugar-free Protein Snickers Bars

These protein snickers bars require just simple healthy pantry staples, so it’s the perfect recipe for homemade peanut butter protein bars!

  • Oat Flour. You can also make your own using Rolled or Instant/Quick oats, and use the gluten-free ones if you need.
  • Cheerios Cereal
  • Unflavored Protein Powder or more Oat Flour. This is the protein powder I used; from Quest Nutrition.
  • Sugar free Maple Syrup for low calorie protein bar with no sugar!
I use the sugar free monk fruit maple syrup from Lakanto (code HAYLSKITCHEN gets you a discount).

The Peanut Butter Protein Caramel Layer

These raw Snickers protein bars use a high protein and sugar free caramel layer made with peanut butter powder and protein powder.

  • Creamy Peanut Butter
  • Peanut Butter Powder, also known as Powdered Peanut Butter. I recommend Lakanto for a sugar free version (the code HAYLSKITCHEN gives you a discount). Or you could use the one from PbFit too.
  • Vanilla Protein Powder – the part that makes these high protein snickers candy bars.
I recommend the same here too: Vanilla Quest protein powder for this.
  • A bit of Water

For the chocolate coating

  • Sugar free Chocolate Bar or Chocolate Chips: I use the chips from Lakanto here (HAYLSKITCHEN for a discount here too). Another option is Lily’s Bar or Chocolate Chips.

Coconut Oil so the chocolate is easier to melt and more smooth when you drizzle.

How to store Homemade Protein Powder Snickers Candy Bars

These homemade snickers protein bars need to be stored in the fridge since they have a runny peanut butter protein caramel layer.

Place low calorie snickers bars in an airtight container and they will last for even a week. Unless you finish them all up before that is.

This healthy snickers bar recipe make great freezer friendly protein peanut butter treats too! Place peanut butter protein Snickers bars in an airtight sealed container, or individually wrapped in pastic wrap, and they should be good for 2-3 months. Be sure to let them thaw on the counter before eating!

Some alternate ingredients for Healthy Snickers Bars

I made these healthy snickers bars with protein powder, peanut butter powder and monk fruit sweetened sugar free stevia syrup to make sugar free low calorie snickers without dates! Here’s some healthy ingredient swaps you could try though

  • Unflavored protein powder: Unflavored Collagen, or even Almond flour or Oat flour
  • Cheerios Cereal: Use rice krispies, Chex or any other crunchy cereal (you might have to play around with the quantity a little)
  • Peanut Butter Powder: Use 4 tablespoon Creamy Peanut Butter, but also reduce the water to maybe 2 Tbsp.
  • Sugar free Maple Syrup: Regular maple syrup or Honey, but they won’t be Vegan or a no sugar recipe anymore.
  • Sugar free chocolate: Regular chocolate

Vegan Twix Bars without Dates:

Since there’s no condensed milk for the caramel in this recipe, these Snickers bars can easily be made Vegan with the right ingredients.

Use a plant based protein powder to get a Vegan protein Snickers bar; ProteinWorld has a Vegan protein blend as well.

You also want to make sure you use dairy free chocolate chips here.

Sweet, chewy and peanutty homemade Protein Snickers Bars that are Vegan, Sugar-free and gluten free! Healthy snickers bars use oat flour, protein powder, peanut butter powder and sugar free maple syrup and chocolate.

Ingredients

Nougat Base:

  • ½ cup Instant or Rolled Oats, 45g
  • ½ cup Cheerios Cereal, 14g
  • ⅓ cup Unflavored Protein Powder, 30g, 1 scoop, see post for subs
  • 2 tablespoon Maple Syrup, Sugar-free recommended, 30ml

Peanut Butter Protein Caramel:

  • 6 tablespoon Peanut Butter Powder, 36g, see post for subs
  • ½ scoop Vanilla Protein Powder, 15g
  • 1½ tablespoon Creamy Peanut Butter, 24g
  • ¼ cup Water, 60ml
  • 3½ tablespoon Peanuts, Halved, 24g

Chocolate Coating:

  • ¼ cup Chocolate Chips, Sugar-free recommended, 56g
  • ¼ teaspoon Coconut Oil

Instructions

  • Line a loaf pan with parchment paper (or use moulds or a tray). Leave an overhang to lift out later.

Nougat Base:

  • In a food processor combine oats, cereal and unflavored protein powder.
  • Transfer to a bowl, add in maple syrup and mix. Mixture will be like a dough.
  • Transfer to prepared pan and press down.

Peanut Butter Protein Caramel:

  • In a bowl, stir together peanut butter powder, vanilla protein powder, peanut butter and water.
Mixture will be a thick paste.
  • Spread half mixture on top of nougat layer and use back of spoon/spatula to smoothen.
Sprinkle on peanuts and gently press down.
Spread other half caramel mixture and smoothen with spatula/back of spoon.
  • Place pan in freezer for about 10 minutes to harden.

Chocolate Coating:

  • Lift layers out of pan, place on cutting board and using a sharp knife, slice into 6 bars.
  • Line a cookie sheet with same parchment paper.
  • Place the chocolate chips and coconut oil in a large microwave safe bowl and microwave at 14 second intervals, stirring – for about 45 seconds until completely melted.
Allow to cool to room temperature, about 5 minutes – this is important or the chocolate will melt the peanut butter protein layer.
  • Dip bars in chocolate and using 2 forks, toss to coat. Remove, allow excess to drip and place on parchment-lined sheet to cool.
  • Repeat with remaining bars.
Place tray in freezer for 2-5 minutes to harden.
