If you’re anything like me who loves chocolate cake but wants a healthy version that isn’t loaded with all the sugar and calories, this recipe is meant for you.
Honestly, even if you don’t love chocolate cake – just like it – this one might change your mind, haha.

My original goal was to make a brownie loaf, but after putting on the frosting and sprinkles, and then slicing into it.. Just SO SOFT! For real a really soft cake – which is why I say its the best you’re gonna have!

Why You’ll Love This Healthy Chocolate Protein Cake

  • Over 15g of protein per slice makes this the ultimate fitness-friendly dessert.
  • This chocolate cake is without sugar so it will satisfy your cravings without guilt.
  • Thanks to applesauce your protein cake is soft and moist!
  • This protein cake recipe stores well and makes a great meal prep dessert or post workout snack.

Ingredients for Healthy Chocolate Protein Cake

This recipe is packed with protein and has other clean ingredients like whole wheat pastry flour and even uses a Greek yogurt frosting. Here’s what you need for the perfect guilt-free dessert for fitness lovers, meal preppers, and chocolate fans.

  • Whey-Casein Chocolate Protein Powder is what gives the cake it’s sweetness and makes a high protein recipe.
I used the protein powder from Quest Nutrition.
  • Unflavored Protein Powder to replace some of the flour and get extra protein. I recommend the one from KOS.
  • Flour – I use 1:1 Gluten Free Baking Flour, but Whole Wheat Pastry Flour or regular All Purpose flour works here too.
  • Coconut Flour to add some more dry ingredient, but for lower calories
  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder for that rich chocolate flavor
  • Hot Water
  • Unsweetened Applesauce to provide moisture to the cake since protein powder can make it dry otherwise
  • Some Lemon Juice
  • A bit of Melted Butter
  • Baking Soda
  • Vanilla Extract

For the Chocolate Frosting:

  • Non-fat Greek Yogurt for a high protein and creamy chocolate frosting without all the fat from the buttercream.
  • Chocolate Protein Powder; I used Quest Chocolate protein powder again since it’s whey-casein blend and mixes well with the yogurt.
  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder

And for the Top:

  • Sprinkles
