Indulgent Kinder Protein Mug Cake will be your new favorite quick dessert! With protein powder instead of sugar, a fun cashew butter and Kinder Bueno mix, this mug cake is a real treat.

Its been a while since I had a Kinder Bueno chocolate, and this wafer really brought back childhood memories. Had to make a fun dessert with it, and a Kinder chocolate mug cake was as easy as it gets!

Ingredients for Kinder Protein Mug Cake

This chocolate Kinder protein mug cake is made with a few simple and healthy ingredients, and has no sugar or butter or oil!

  • Whole Wheat Pastry Flour – or a regular all purpose flour
  • Chocolate Protein Powder needed for high protein lava cake and also replaces the ‘sugar’. I used Chocolate Milkshake protein powder from Quest Nutrition.
  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • A bit of Greek Yogurt to add moisture since there’s no butter or oil in here
  • Egg Whites for extra protein
  • Unsweetened Almond Milk
  • A bit of Vanilla Extract
  • Baking Powder

If you need to add more sweetness, Stevia Powder or Zero Calorie Sugar Substitute; I use Lakanto, to keep this protein lava cake recipe sugar free; (code HAYLSKITCHEN for a discount here too)

And then for some of the center and topping of this Kinder Chocolate Mug Cake:

  • Vanilla Flavored Cashew Butter from American Dream Nut Butter! Code HAYLSKITCHEN gives you a discount on these.
Actually got the sweet vanilla flavor in the nut butter and so smooth.
I love the Moose Tracks Cashew Butter or even Mason’s Caramel Hot Fudge Sundae Cashew Butter!
  • Kinder Bueno Chocolate

Tips to make Kinder Bueno Mug Cake with Protein Powder in the Microwave

This Kinder Bueno microwave mug cake using protein powder really is an easy one, but make sure you do all of this stuff to get is perfect.

  • Grease the mug! You want the Kinder mugcake to come off easily.
  • Don’t over-mix the batter!
Make sure you gently fold the dry mix into the wet to combine them.
If you over-mix it, the protein powder will make your protein mug cake tough, dense and gummy.
  • Taste the batter and see if you need some extra sweetener. I’d recommend using stevia powder to maintain the consistency of the batter.
  • Don’t overcook. The top will should be soft and just done. It will continue to cook when out.
  • Wait for the mugcake to cool a bit so you don’t burn yourself.

Alternates for this Healthy Kinder Chocolate Mug Cake Recipe

I recommend making this a healthy kinder chocolate mug cake with the protein powder and other ingredients listed since it gives the best results.

If you need other options for the flours and such, here’s some alternatives for a healthy chocolate wafer mug cake for one:

  • Whole Wheat Pastry Flour: All purpose flour, 1:1 gluten free baking flour or Almond Flour in the same amount by weight not cups.
  • Chocolate Protein Powder: Use Vanilla; You might need another teaspoon of Cocoa powder though.
  • Egg Whites: 2 tablespoon aquafaba (chickpea liquid). I haven’t given this a try yet though.
  • Greek Yogurt: Coconut Yogurt, Pumpkin Puree, Mashed Banana
  • Almond Milk: Any other milk
  • Cashew Butter: Hazelnut butter, almond butter or even Tahini. I’d recommend adding a pinch of sweetener to it first though.
