If you’re here, you probably have an idea of HOW MANY protein powder options there are out there, so here’s the best healthy protein powders you can get. And they actually taste good!
I mostly use protein powder for my dessert recipes – both baked and no-bake – and after trying out A LOT of brands and types, here’s a rundown of my favorites!
Can’t say no to a good creative protein shake with these powders either though.
Quest Nutrition (Whey-Casein)
Definitely my number one on the best protein powders list – and healthy for sure!
Pretty much all the flavors I’ve tried are on-point with whatever they’re to match; I really don’t know how they do it. Just genius!
BEST Whey-Casein blend for baking (Whey-only or Casein-only doesn’t work the same)
Other reasons I love it:
- REALLY good taste.
- Sweet, and great substitute for sweetener(sugar) in a recipe
- Mixes really easily with water (Don’t even a blender bottle, just a spoon!)
- Whey Isolate + Casein
Here’s my top flavor recommendations:
- Vanilla: Replacement for sugar in recipes, and also great for a thick pudding/spread
- Chocolate: Sugar-replacement for Chocolatey desserts
- Multi-purpose Mix (Unflavored): Replacement for flour. This has no flavor
- Peanut Butter
Dymatize (Whey)
I love their Whey Isolate (ISO 100) line since its so clean. Dymatize is the Whey I use in all my Protein Brownies and Chocolate Cakes when I need a combination of Whey-Casein + Whey in the recipe.
Another one that mixes super well with water.
Flavor is rich too!
My faves:
- ISO 100 Gourmet Chocolate Whey; Amazon Link
- Chocolate Complete Plant-Based; Amazon Link
Prozis (Whey)
Another one with a great Whey Isolate.
They have A LOT of protein powder flavors and types, and even more protein snacks.
- Vanilla Bean: Vanilla taste with a hint of a coffee undertone.
- Raw Cacao: Rich-n-deep coffee-ish undertone again
HTLT Supps (Whey-Casein)
Another one that works super well in recipes
- Really good flavors!
- Also sweet (like Quest)
- Whey Concentrate + Casein
The Whey concentrate is not lactose free, and can give digestive issues; It did for my husband and I, so we stopped using this brand.
Flavor recommendations (website link):
- Vanilla Milkshake
- Chocolate Donut
- S’mores
- Luckier Marshmallow
Truvani (Plant Based)
Most plant-based protein powders I’ve tried have been absolute trash (I actually threw some in the trash too), but Truvani makes the cut!
It does have that earthy/bean-y/rough after-taste of a plant-based protein powder, but actually works out well mixed into Oats!
A good alternative for Whey in some of my protein cake or brownie recipes too.
Flavor recommendations:
- Chocolate
- Vanilla Chai (a new beauty!)
Livwell Nutrition (Plant Based)
Another good plant-based protein powder I tried 4 years ago.
Got a rich coffee-y earthy undertone (and aftertaste), but works perfectly well mixed into Oats for breakfast!
P.S. Add a bit of sweetener here.
Flavors to try (website link):
- Raw Cacao
- Vanilla Bean
NOT THIS: Devotion Nutrition (Whey-Casein)
I had a lot of hopes from Devotion, but it was WAY TOO SWEET!
I would say “sugary” sweet. Sorry if I’m repeating it too much, but they were just too too too sweet.
And this is for all flavors: Angel Food Cake, Brownie Batter and Sweet Potato Pie Cinnamon.
NOT THIS: Nuzest (Plant Based)
This is the plant-based protein powder I actually trashed.
I really don’t like being hateful, but I tried 2 of the sample flavors I got to try, and the flavor was so rough and earthy I couldn’t force myself to have the rest. Husband felt the same.
