The best high protein banana cream pie is a decadent, sugar free treat with 16g of protein. A no bake healthy banana cream pie recipe with Greek yogurt, protein powder and collagen that is perfectly macro-friendly!

I actually planned to make a full pie crust as the base, but improvised when the baked crust didn't look like I wanted it to.
I made this the morning before we headed out on a weekend getaway to Vegas, and the entire family was waiting for this recipe to be finished so they could have a taste before we hit the road. Let me tell you - it was absolutely worth the wait! My husband even finished off an entire slice as part of the "official" taste test, haha. If you need a crowd-pleasing homemade banana cream that's healthy and fits your macros, this is it.
Now, if someone asks you - Is banana cream pie unhealthy? While the usual answer is yes, with this recipe, you can say no!
Why You Will Love This Recipe
- Packed with Protein: With protein powder and collagen in the cream pie filling, as well as collagen in the crust, this really is the highest protein (16 grams of protein) authentic version of a banana cream pie.
- Easy No-Bake Option if you use nilla wafers. No stovetop work needed either.
- Sugar-Free: It uses protein powder for sweetener and sugar free pudding mix!
- Low Calorie: At just 241 calories per slice, it is a fantastic low calorie banana cream pie compared to traditional versions.
- Gluten-Free & Vegan Options: This recipe is easily adaptable to fit your dietary needs (check the alternate ingredients section below!).
Ingredients for Protein Banana Cream Pie
The Crust
- Pie Crust or Nilla Wafers: You can use a standard frozen crust like Pillsbury or crushed wafers for a classic base.
- Peanut Butter Powder like this one from PB2 or PBFit.
- Unflavored Collagen: Used to make a high protein caramel to bind the crust together. I recommend Vital Proteins.
- Almond Milk
The Filling
- Non-fat Greek Yogurt or Skyr: The base of this no bake high protein banana cream pie filling.
- Vanilla Protein Powder: This serves as the sweetener; I used a mix of whey and whey-casein, but you can use just one if needed.
- Unflavored Collagen: Optional, but adds a double-dose of protein. Vital Proteins here.
- Sugar-free Vanilla Instant Pudding Mix: To get the pudding texture. I use the one from Simply Delish; Its actually plant based!
Topping:
- Bananas: Use ripe (but not mushy) bananas for the best flavor.
- Sugar-Free Cool Whip: For that light, airy finish.
See recipe card at the bottom of the page for the measurements!

Alternate Ingredients for a Low Calorie Banana Cream Pie
- Sugar-free Cool Whip - Feel free to use any whipped topping! Even a dairy free version works.
- Pie Crust: Use Nilla Wafers or even Graham Crackers. Gluten free wafers work too.
- Protein Powder: Any brand of vanilla whey or casein protein powder should work well here. If using plant-based protein, you might need a little extra sweetener or vanilla extract to adjust the flavor, any milk to adjust the thickness.
- Collagen: Replace with PB powder for the sauce, or unflavored protein powder for the pudding.
- Greek Yogurt: Any thick yogurt or Coconut yogurt works.
- Almond Milk: Use any milk of choice.
Instructions: How to Make Protein Powder Banana Cream Pie
Step 1: Prepare the Protein Crust
- Bake (If using pie crust): Preheat oven to 450°F. Roll the crust into a 9" dish and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden. Let it cool completely.
- Make the "Caramel" Binder: In a small bowl, whisk together the collagen, peanut butter powder, and almond milk until it forms a uniform sauce.
- Process: Place your baked crust (or Nilla wafers) into a food processor and pulse into large crumbs. Add the caramel sauce and process again until well combined.
- Form: Press the mixture firmly into the bottom and 1-1.5 inches up the sides of your pie pan.

Step 2: The Banana and Pudding Layers
- Banana Layer: Slice your bananas and place them over the bottom of the crust so they are touching and cover the base.
- Make the Pudding: In a bowl, whisk the Greek yogurt, protein powders, collagen, instant pudding mix, and almond milk. Add the milk slowly until the mixture is completely smooth (1-2 minutes). Use a hand mixer if needed.
- Fill: Pour the protein powder banana cream pie filling over the bananas and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Chill: Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2-4 hours to set.

Step 3: Top and Serve
- Once set, spread the thawed sugar-free Cool Whip evenly over the pudding layer.
- Cut into 8 slices and enjoy your healthy homemade banana cream pie!
- Garnish: Add chocolate shavings or a light dusting of cocoa powder for a beautiful finish.

Equipment
Here's the mini food processor I use and absolutely love!
Storage for Healthy Banana Cream Pie
- Fridge: This pie is best kept in the refrigerator. Cover tightly with plastic wrap or store in a pie carrier (or move to airtight container) for up to 4 days.
- Note: The bananas may slightly brown after 24 hours, but the pie will still taste delicious! For the best presentation, serve within the first 12-24 hours.
- NO Freezing: This recipe does not freeze well. It's best enjoyed fresh after chilling!
