Are Chocolate Covered Strawberries Healthy?
Traditionally? Not really. They are usually dipped in sugary milk chocolate or candy melts. Even healthier chocolate covered strawberries made with dark chocolate can be high in fat.
That is why this protein powder chocolate covered strawberries recipe is a game changer! We skip the melted chocolate bars entirely and create a rich ganache using cocoa powder and protein powder. You get that luscious chocolate fix with a fraction of the sugar, AND with extra protein! It really is the ultimate healthy chocolate strawberry dessert!
Ingredients for Healthy Chocolate Strawberry Dessert
- Chocolate Protein Powder: The base of our sauce. I use a whey-casein blend from Quest Nutrition for the thickest texture, but you can use standard whey like this one from Isopure (make sure you use much less water in this case).
- Unsweetened Cocoa Powder: Adds that deep, rich chocolate flavor without the sugar.
- Almond Butter: Provides creaminess and healthy fats.
- Subs: You can substitute with peanut butter, cashew butter, or sunflower seed butter for a nut-free option.
- Water: To thin the sauce.
- Subs: You can use almond milk or any milk of choice for an even creamier result.
- Strawberries: Fresh and chopped into bite-sized pieces.
- Chocolate Whipped Topping: I used a chocolate flavor to make it extra rich, but regular light whipped cream or a dairy-free whipped topping works perfectly.
- Shaved Chocolate or Sprinkles: Optional, but makes it look like a fancy chocolate strawberry pot!
See recipe card at the bottom of the page for the measurements!

Instructions: How to Make Healthy Chocolate Strawberry Jars

- Layer the Strawberries: Divide half of the strawberries evenly between two small jars or ramekins.
- Add Chocolate Chocolate: Top the strawberries with ¼ portion of the chocolate sauce (about 3 tablespoon per jar).
- Repeat: Add another layer of strawberries, followed by the remaining chocolate sauce.

- Top and Serve: Finish with a spray of chocolate whipped topping and some shaved chocolate or sprinkles. Dig in and then look for more haha.
